Each one is a hand-poured composite of clear resin, metal shavings and crystals, so quality varies enormously between makers. What goes into an orgonite pyramid

• Resin: a clear casting resin forms the body. Good resin cures hard and water-clear; poor resin stays slightly tacky, yellows in sunlight and clouds over.
• Metal: copper, brass, aluminium or iron shavings and coils suspended through the resin. Copper coils and spirals are the traditional element and the one customers look for.
• Crystals: a quartz point is the usual centre, with tumbled chips of amethyst, rose quartz, black tourmaline, lapis, seven-chakra stones or other minerals layered around it. The stones must be genuine; dyed glass chips are a common substitute in low-cost imports.
• Decorative layers: gold foil, engraved symbols, a flower of life or tree of life cut into the base, and coloured resin layers are all standard variations.

Sizes that sell

Pyramids are described by base width. Small pieces of 40 to 50 mm suit desks, cars and gift boxes and ship cheaply. The 60 to 80 mm size is the retail standard and the one most shops reorder. Large 100 mm and above pyramids are statement pieces for practitioners and home decor. Because resin is heavy, weight per piece drives your shipping cost more than for most crystal products, so ask for the approximate weight of each size before you compare prices.

Quality checks

• Clarity: you should see the metal and stones clearly through the resin. Milky or bubbly resin is a sign of poor mixing or humidity during casting.
• Cure: the surface should be glass-hard. Press a fingernail into the base; any give means under-cured resin that will scratch and collect dust.
• Edges and apex: the four faces should be flat and the apex sharp, not rounded from over-sanding.
• Base: the base should be flat and polished so the pyramid sits without rocking. Engraved bases should be cleanly cut.
• Stones: ask what each layer contains. Real stone chips have irregular shapes and natural colour variation; uniform bright chips are usually glass.

What not to claim

Orgonite is sold as a decorative and meditation object. Descriptions on your own store should avoid medical claims, and claims about blocking radiation or electromagnetic fields are not supported and can fall foul of advertising rules in several countries. Describe the materials, the craftsmanship and the intended use honestly; the product sells well on that basis.
